Core Group Question

Postby klhenn on Thu Aug 11, 2011 9:41 pm

I will be teaching a co op class this fall and would like to use Homeschool Skedtrack to help me with the grading.

So for my Language Arts class, the students will need to do their reading assignments, complete responses to their reading, take on writing projects, and other misc. assignment.

I want to have reading be 10% of their grade, the novel response be 10% of their grade, the writing projects be 30% of their grade etc. I don't know how to do this as I set up a Core Group but it said the percentage had to be 100% and I couldn't see where to add in mini subjects under the umbrella of my class name.

Thanks for any help!

You can use 1 course, Language Arts, and you just need to determine the type of activity and enter the weights for the grades (this needs to add up to 100% as well). The Activity types available are: Regular (non graded), Quiz, Test, Oral Test, Workbook, Field Work, Practical Test, Report, Other. The terms won't fit perfectly to your specs but maybe you can make it work. However, you need to type in the graded assignments separately to give them grades. Multiple graded assignments are allowed if you input/enter it "after the fact" - after 1 day has passed.

Another approach will be to use the Course Group - just as you thought. Create the "mini-courses" as course and do the Course Group with weights just like the how you want it for your grade - adding up to 100%. (Suggested names) Courses will be: Reading, Responses to Reading, Writing, ... and they need to add up to 100%. Course Group Name is Language Arts. You will have only 1 grade for this course group.
