Setting up Excel lesson plan template-wanted to verify

Postby schoolingmomma on Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:49 pm

I'm creating an excel spreadsheet to make it easier to input this years lesson plans for the specific courses I need to track and wanted to verify if I have the right values so I can import the lesson plans for others to use (if the lesson plans are usuable).

Would I need the following to make it easy to import:
completion_date duration description

I assume after importing the lesson plan, I can then add the weighted grades if applicable?

Is it possible in the spreadsheet to add the title of the lesson plan or will this need to be done when the lesson plan is actually imported?

If you are starting fresh, you will need this:
DURATION, TYPE, DESCRIPTION --- this is for the activities.

If you have started and have completion dates, you will need this:
COMPLETION_DATE, DURATION, TYPE, DESCRIPTION

the weights will be in the course, grades will be for tests or graded activities.
when you say title, do you mean the course title?

I feel bad that it's been awhile since I replied but I eventually discovered (through trial and error) that a course title wasn't possible, but I was still left with a question regarding the template; Is there a way to create a template in Excel, enter the course information and save it as a cvs without having to go to the Notepad to edit/save and then upload.

This would be convenient, for when we don't have time to continually log in and can just complete a spreadsheet, upload it a little faster, but I'm finding that I'm still having to take the step of save as cvs, go to Notepad, edit and upload and not sure what I'm missing with starting fresh using just:DURATION, TYPE, DESCRIPTION

Ideally, an Excel file saved as .csv could be uploaded directly to Homeschool Skedtrack. But, many times (or most of the time), there are embedded characters in the file that causes upload error. You might want to try to upload it directly and hopefully not get any error. If there is an error, the only way to make sure that the .csv file is a "clean" file, is to be opened w/ Notepad. It is a good thing the Notepad displays all the embedded characters. For now, the only way to have a clean upload is to check the .csv file with Notepad.
