Hours requirement for student

Postby m&m on Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:04 am

Hi, I hope I'm putting this question in the correct forum!

I'm new to using the program, but so far really like it! My questions concerns the hours requirement for individual students. We don't have a minimum number of hours to teach in my state and I don't usually pay much attention to scheduling hours ahead, only recording them when we're done just to have an idea of how much we've done. But, the "Enrollment" tab says I have to list something. Then, when my hours scheduled don't meet the minimum, I get a warning on the "Calendar" page that there aren't enough hours scheduled or if there are too many, it seems to cut off my schedule on whatever day the number of hours has been met, regardless of whether I have lessons planned past that point.

Am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding something? If not, is there a way to make the hours required section optional or to have the days required supersede the hours required?

Thanks so much for any help!

No, the system requires duration, this drives the Calendar in calculating the last day of school. The days required cannot supersede the hours required.

The Calendar is based on duration. Once the total duration meets the requirement (example: 900 hrs = 180 days X 5.0 hrs/day) the Calendar would indicate that the school year is done.

So, if you set the required hours per day on the Admin-Enrollments Edit page as 5 hrs and your child does 6 hours per day on some days, the extra 1 hr will accumulate and when it reaches 5 hrs, it will add up as 1 day and the School Year is cut short. To solve this problem, you can set hours per day in Admin-Enrollments Edit page to more than 5 hrs (example, 5.5hrs).

To get an idea how many hours are projected for each day, go to Today-Calendar and look at the number enclosed in brackets, that is the projected hours per day as set on the courses. This needs to be more or less the same as the hours per day set on the Admin-Edit Enrollment page.

Thank you so much for a wonderful product! I just disovered Skedtrack about 3 weeks ago and I have my students set up and ready to go for the new school year. Love it!

However, I definitely agree that an option to let Days override Hours would be so helpful. In my state as well, all that is required is 180 days of schooling. The way the system currently works makes it difficult to work with as far as keeping up with the Days requirement. Please consider making this an option.

Regardless, thanks again very much for the best home school scheduling product I've found on the internet.

We are glad to know that you find Homeschool Skedtrack useful for your homeschool! Adding the option of doing the Calendar calculation by Days instead of Hours is being considered.
