Linking files to activities

Postby Miss Karen on Mon Mar 07, 2011 2:13 pm

I love how I can add a website link to the activity, then in the Today tab, I can just highlight the link, the click "go to" and go there. I think it would be great if we could also link to files on our pc. For instance, I have my reading, spelling and math lessons either in pdf or excel format and It would be great to click on a link to the exact file I need right from the Today screen. But I also understand that I am asking the website to access my pc files which is different that accessing another link on the internet, and there may be complications with such a scenario.

It would be nice to be able to link a resource directly to an activity on a particular day . That way, I can add a science resource from the library of a book or dvd and just put a link in the activity. When I get to the day, I can click the link to see the details of the resource without having to type it in the activity all over again. When the activity is completed for the day, The resource would be automatically updated that it was used on a particular date for a particular activity.

These are not biggies for me, just niceties.

Also really like the idea that another member suggested which is to be able to add sequential lessons. I think it would be a huge help when you are setting up 6 subjects with at least 180 activies each. That is ALOT of copying and editing...VERY time consuming. I hope this will become a feature soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

As for the sequential activities - what exactly did you mean by that? Actually the activities must be setup sequentially.

Just a note: When you go to Courses->Import->From World, you will find courses that have been shared by many homeschool moms that are free to use. You might want to check that out and see if you could use some of them. Click on the headers to sort.

I'm not the original poster, but am trying to do the same thing she wanted.

When I want to input a sequence (i.e. Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3) then I need to insert a new activity and type "Chapter 1", insert a new activity and type "Chapter 2", etc. If I'm smart I will type "Chapter" and copy it however many times, but then I still need to go back and click in each Things To Do and type "1", "2", "3", etc.

It would also be nice to be able to copy a chunk of days. For example, in math on Monday we watch a video and do worksheet A, on Tuesday we do worksheets B & C, on Wednesday we do worksheets D & E, on Thursday we do worksheet F, and on Friday we do our test. This sequence of 5 events is repeated 30 times, but I can't copy the 5 together and paste them. I have to copy all the Mondays and paste, copy all the Tuesdays and paste, etc. It would be nice if you could choose the Copy N command, select the number of items you want copied (so items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and then click insert and have it Copy those 5 items N times.

Does that make sense?

Got it. For now you will just have to edit the numbers/letters for recurring descriptions.
