Using Resources with Activities

Postby CindyK on Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:39 pm

I would love to find a way such that I didn't have to re-enter the name of the resource with every Activity that is using that resource in a specific subject. For instance, in science we are using about 3 books at one time. I have already entered the 3 books into the Course Resources for science, but then in activities, I have to repeat-type the name of the book(s) everyday and what chapters to read in those books. Like this:

Monday: Book A, Chapter 1, Read and Narrate
Book B, Chapters 1-3, Read Independently
Thursday: Book A, Chapter 2, Read and Narrate
Book B, Chapters 4-5, Read Independently

I would love to be able to choose from a drop-down box and then enter the chapter(s) to read or otherwise complete. Not only do I have to repeatedly enter the book for every activity, but if I wanted to have them read both books on the same say, as shown above, I have to list it all in one paragraph-size activity. The boys are finding it hard to weed through the paragraph of assignments for that subject to see which they have completed and which they still have to do.

Is there a better way to do this?

Your approach looks ok but if you want it to be more systematic, perhaps one way to do this is to separate the 2 resources into 2 courses, call it Science A and Science B.

Maybe that would help. I don't want to have to re-type the name of the book over and over in that Activities PLUS have more than one book/assignment listed in one activity box. Since you don't allow multiple activities in the same course on the same day, maybe creating several Courses, each for a specific resource, then group them into a single Course Group, would be a work-around for that. So I could have a Course Group called Science, and then Courses called "Science - Objects in Motion", "Science - Thinking Physics", etc. Doing it this way might work OK, if I could get the new report request that I posted in the Reports forum.

Thanks,
