Another Question About Scheduling Course Days

Postby teachbug on Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:56 pm

You had answered my last post about trying to schedule for 180 days rather than specific days, and your reply was very helpful. You suggested changing that when my projected scheduled day changed, that I change those days to vacation days so that my children will not appear absent. But, I've come across another problem with my irregular school schedule. I don't know a good way to explain this so I'll give you an example:

Yesterday was the first day of school; however, my kids were working at our Co-op's Open House almost the entire day. We took a short afternoon break and they finished their Literature and Language Arts during this break. They were not able to fit in their other assignments scheduled that day, but we are working on them today. Since they had makeup work, they will not get all of today's assignments done, but will finish them on other days, or the 6th day, if necessary. In addition, they are not able to start their History or Science until a few weeks from now when their co-op will start. I already assigned them work because I didn't realize those classes would be delayed. Are they going to appear as if they are not doing their work if they do not complete their work on the "assigned" day. I would not be able to mark those days as vacation days, would I, if they are doing make up assignments? I am so confused as to how to make this work. Note: I've set every assignment as a "co-owner" because we slide in assignments before or after co-op classes or other school-related activities.

Once your student has accomplished an activity for a given school day (even only one), he/she will be marked as present. When you do only certain activities in one day, you just go ahead and check those off as completed, putting in the correct duration if you desire so. All the other activities that were not done will automatically roll on to the next scheduled day. If the subject is on everyday, then it will come up tomorrow, if it is MWF, then it will come up again on W so you don't have to worry about it - it will come up automatically. For the other courses that start late, just check them off when it is done - they will appear on the Today-Daily if they were scheduled (and you can just ignore them) but if you don't check them off, they will just roll automatically to the next scheduled day. If you want your Today-Daily to be free of courses that are not yet scheduled, you can edit the start date of the course to coincide with the correct first day of said course.
